Kosovo parliament scuffles: opposition use tear gas & pepper spray

Kosovo's opposition used tear gas and pepper spray inside parliament and pelted police with rocks and pink paint outside the building on Tuesday (17 October) in another attempt to force the government to renounce recent deals with Serbia and Montenegro.

Albin Kurti, a leader of the opposition Self-Determination Movement, used pepper spray on ministers, forcing lawmakers to evacuate the main hall on Tuesday.

Over the past two months, Kosovo's opposition has sought to disrupt parliament and force the government to renounce a deal with Serbia giving more powers to ethnic-Serb communities and with Montenegro on border demarcation.

Cats invade G20 summit stage in feline security breach

The G20 summit had some unexpected feline guests on its main stage on Sunday (November 15) just moments before the leaders of the world's major economies were due to attend an event.

Three stray cats breached tight security and appeared onto the stage at the summit in Turkey's coastal province of Antalya as bemused journalists looked on.

The curious felines ran across the stage, sniffed at flowers on display and ran off.

17-yr-old pulls out all the stops in epic police chase, Australia

Police in the Australian state of Queensland have released dramatic video showing a 17-year-old unlicensed driver engage in a car chase near Brisbane on Wednesday (12 November).

The car is shown swerving through streets and highways, sometimes driving on the wrong side of the road and on pavements. During the pursuit, the car also tried to squeeze between two trucks when it was clipped and spun out of control, flipping the car's bonnet up.

Police reports state they successfully used tyre deflation devices on the vehicle.

Remnants of Hurricane Patricia Storm Surge at Campobello Island October ...

In the last clip a wave washed over me I got very wet and my Canon Camcorder died. (Hopefully it will work again when it dries out)

The perfect storm so to speak the remnants of hurricane Patricia that first hit the Pacific coast of Mexico then crossed into Texas and the Gulf of Mexico before coming up the Atlantic east coast of North America. Soon to arrive in Europe.

This footage was taken at high tide in the Bay of Fundy on the highest tide of this month 8.1 meters.

India lawmakers kick and punch collegue who served beef at party

Lawmakers from India's ruling Hindu nationalist party in Kashmir kicked and punched an independent member of the state assembly on Thursday for hosting a party where he served beef.

Hindus consider cows to be sacred, and slaughtering the animals is banned in most Indian states.

Bharatiya Janata Party members beat lawmaker Rashid Ahmed, a Muslim, in the assembly soon after its session began Thursday.

A Kosovo parliamentary session has resumed following a break of 30 minutes, when opposition MPs interrupted blowing whistles to disrupt speakers and firing tear gas inside the parliament building.

With the addition of six small Espelette peppers I had enough to make two batches of Hot pepper jelly, six 500ml jars. I use my dried Thai chillies instead of jalapeño peppers and quite a lot of it so mine is fiery hot great with cream cheese on crackers or bagels.

The Method:

Ingredients:
390 g finely chopped red bell
peppers
185 g finely chopped green bell
peppers
20 g finely chopped jalapeno
peppers
235 ml apple cider vinegar
50 g powdered pectin
1000 g white sugar
Directions:
1. Sterilize 6 (8 ounce) canning jars and lids according to manufacturer's instructions. Heat water in a hot water canner.
2. Place red bell peppers, green bell peppers, and jalapeno peppers in a large saucepan over high heat. Mix in vinegar and fruit pectin. Stirring constantly, bring mixture to a full rolling boil. Quickly stir in sugar. Return to full rolling boil, and boil exactly 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and skim off any foam.
3. Quickly ladle jelly into sterile jars, filling to within 1/4 inch of the tops. Cover with flat lids, and screw on bands tightly.
4. Place jars in rack, and slowly lower jars into canner. The water should cover the jars completely, and should be hot but not boiling. Bring water to a boil, and process for 5 minutes.

Well this has been a pleasant surprise I put this video up at midnight last night and in the first 8 hours it has received 27,000 views and is still receiving around 3,000 new views per house. There is always a discrepancy between the counter that the public can see on the video but I have never seen such a big one as there is this morning around 11,000 on the public counter and 27,000 on the realtime counter that only the channel owner can see. The closest that I have ever come to a viral video.

I'm not sure where I was going with that barrel. 

9-metre-long shark washes up on Maine beach

A large basking shark, measuring around nine metres, washed ashore in Lubec, Maine, yesterday (September 2) at 5am.

Despite the efforts of ten locals, who spent several hours gathering water in buckets and pouring it over the shark’s gills in an attempt to keep it alive, the animal later died.

Chitting potatoes and a look at the garden and hoop house.

Norland : Smooth red skin, shallow eyes white flesh. No internal defects, few irregular tubers. Some resistance to scab and rhizoctonia (black scurf)(Early)

Pacific Russet : Newly released, russet skin white flesh, very shallow eyes. Good yield uniform size. Great boiled or baked. Rated very high in Ontario industry trials for yield and uniformity. (Early)

Yukon Gold: Oval, slightly flattened tubers, yellow, skin light yellow flesh. Tubers can grow quite large and store well. Good for boiling baking and frying. Plants look similar to a tomato plant. (Mid Season)

Shepody : Long tubers, white skin, white moist flesh medium deep eyes. Excellent tasting potato. Excellent for boiling, baking or french fries. Some resistance to rhizoctonia (black scurf) (Mid Season)

Linzer Delekatass: The Linzer is an early-maturing and another waxy potato most popular for boiling or making salads. Potatoes are small & oval with yellow skin. Linzer Delikatess is one of our top selling potatoes to home and market gardeners .(Fingerling)

Novella : Novella is a new variety with a yellow skin and pale yellow flesh. Potatoes are good and of uniform size. Novella is suitable for cultivation on different soil types but can be susceptible to common scab. (Mid Season)

Roko: Oval potatoes with bright red skin and white flesh. Roko has a unique quality of producing high yields with uniform potatoes. Also excellent for over winter storage. (Mid Season)

Gold Rush: Gold Rush is a great alternative to Russet Burbank which has been a staple in many gardens for years. Gold Rush is an early maturing russet variety, great for boiling and baking. (Mid Season)

Caribe: Caribe is a high yielding oblong potatoes with excellent storage qualities. It is one of my favorite baked potatoes as it has a nice moist flesh when cooked. (Early)

Amarosa: AmaRosa is a mid-season fingerling potato with a smooth bright red skin, and deep red flesh. These creamy nutritious fingerlings are great for baking, roasting, and grilling. AmaRosa also make fantastically colorful potato chips as they retain their bright red color when fried.(Fingerling)

Nicola: Long to oval shape with a rich yellow skin and yellow waxy flesh. Excellent as a salad or boiling potato, wonderful for mash. Also excellent for baked potato dishes and roasting. Originally from West Germany, now widely grown around the world. (Mid Season)

Cara: A wonderful dry floury potatoes that I am growing from my own saved seed from last years crop. I find they best way to cook these is to steam them whole. (Mid Season)

Richard III's coffin goes on public view

The coffin of England's King Richard III has gone on public view until Thursday when his 530-year-old remains will be reburied.

A day of ceremonies on Sunday ended with a service at Leicester Cathedral where a tomb fit for a royal awaits him.

A crown similar to one he was said to have worn on the last day of his life was placed on the coffin.

Earlier, people lined the procession route in Leicester waving flags and white roses, the symbol of Richard's House of York.

My Sourdough No Knead Bread Ingredients and method

200g Sourdough starter
450g Bread Flour
¼ teaspoon instant yeast
11/2 teaspoons salt
375g Water

1. In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients and mix until the flour is well mixed into the water.

2. Place the dough in an airtight container and let it rise in a warm location for 12 to 15 hours.

3. Turn the dough out on a floured surface and turn it over on itself a few times to get it coated with flour. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes.

4. Form the dough roughly into a ball shape and transfer to a tray or peel covered with parchment paper. Dust the top with flour cover with a tea towel and and set aside in a warm location for 2 hours.

5. Ninety minutes later preheat you oven to 450F along with the dutch oven.

6. After the two hour rising period transfer the dough and parchment paper to the dutch oven replace the cover and bake 30 minutes at 450F.

7. Remove the cover and continue baking for an additional 15 minute to brown the crust.

8. Remove the loaf to a cooling rack and allow it to cool for an hour before cutting the loaf. Enjoy.

Redpolls Visiting from the Boreal Forest

Another long video of the birds at the bird table for those of you who are interested in Birds. A special visitor that only shows up every 6 or 7 years, the Redpoll. The NB bird expert that is on CBC radio once a week, the Shift program I think, recently talked about them. I knew that I only have them at my feeders once every few years but I never knew why. He explained that they are native to the Boreal Forest just south of the Canadian Arctic and normally they would stay there in winter. There natural food is the cones on the White Birch and every six or seven years there aren't very many cones so they come south looking for food. They are almost tame because they aren't used to seeing humans and they love to go to bird feeders. Something else interesting that he said was that they dig themselves a snow cave at night to conserve body heat.

Something new in the Cabin

Spent a cold day out at the cabin putting up a new Ikea table that mounts on the wall and can be folded away to make more space. I also made a soup for lunch from the dehydrated garlic scapes, tomatoes and green celery soup that I grew last summer.

New Bird Table & New Fire Starting Method

My brother made me a beautiful new bird table and the birds are starting to get used to it of course when I had the camera set-up it was just chickadees and as soon as I took it inside a large flock of doves arrived. One of my subscribers who also uses Bio Bricks for heat told me how he lights his fire with out kindling wood so of course I had to give it a try.

Blizzard # 3

We just had blizzard # 3 in a little over a weeks time. The video starts with a short time lapse taken before dark, most of the blizzard was in the night. Then a walk around on snow shoes and a drive up to Welshpool to see all of the accumulated snow.

Thirty Centimetres More

More snow we got 30 centimetres more over night so I've put on my snow shoes for a walk around and to add seed to the bird tables.

The video is two longer clips taken on the same day and I just let the camera run so you see the action as it unfolds so to speak.

Winter Hiking

Out for a hike on one of our milder winter days and I decided to have some hot soup ant tea heated with the little camping/hiking stove that I just bought from China. Winter's Night at the Cabin

A winter's night out at the cabin. A cold stormy night but cozy and warm in the cabin with the wood fire burning. Back by popular demand so to speak. Larger Birds at the Bird Table

Another bird table video I was surprised to have crows feeding at the table. There are always lots of them around but I never seen them at the feeder before.

The difference a few days can make

Out for a walk to show you one of my favourite places on a nice sunny day then returned three days later after the big freeze to show the vapour on the water. A look at two funny little signs at least I think they are funny. Happy New Year every one, wishing you all the best for 2015.
