Winter Hiking

Out for a hike on one of our milder winter days and I decided to have some hot soup ant tea heated with the little camping/hiking stove that I just bought from China. It is an amazing piece of techknowledgy as you will see I have no idea how they can make it and sell it at this price point. This is a link to the one that I bought:

And then it snowed some more

Just some clips and a short time lapse that I took during a recent snow storm. Also a slow motion of a raptor of some sort at my bird table.

Cabin off grid Solar Project Update

Just wanted to show you the solar equipment that I bought recently. Now I'm waiting for better weather so I can start installing it. If these links work this is the things that I purchased from Harbor Freight. The prices shown are higher than what I paid there was $50.00 off coupon for the kit for example.

Winter's Night at the Cabin

A winter's night out at the cabin. A cold stormy night but cozy and warm in the cabin with the wood fire burning. Back by popular demand so to speak. My videos from the Cabin are always very popular and I get many requests to do another winters night in the Cabin video. Towards the end of the video I tell a story from my experience of walking the CAMINO DE SANTIAGO . I have done a couple of these walks and if that interests you these links are to a slide-show and some videos taken on these walks.

Larger Birds at the Bird Table

Another bird table video I was surprised to have crows feeding at the table. There are always lots of them around but I never seen them at the feeder before.

The difference a few days can make

Out for a walk to show you one of my favourite places on a nice sunny day then returned three days later after the big freeze to show the vapour on the water. A look at two funny little signs at least I think they are funny. Happy New Year every one, wishing you all the best for 2015.

Belgian Endive al la Ian Knocton & a walk in the park

A walk in the rain in the park land with s look at a very unusual Christmas tree in the wild and some slow motion waves done with a process the GoPro software calls Flux. Back to the house to harvest the first of the Belgian Endive and to try my hand at making a version of Ian Knocton's endive appetizer. I forgot the eggs Ian. The Christmas Broadcast 2014

Published on Dec 25, 2014
In this year's Christmas Broadcast, commonly known as 'The Queen's Speech', Her Majesty recalls the Christmas truce of 1914 as she speaks of reconciliation and forgiveness.

Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
