An orchid I guess. Can anyone name it? Correctly identified by two friends Carole and Joyce. Pyrola elliptica Shinleaf "White Wintergreen" Pyrolaceae (Wintergreen Family)
Nope, not an orchid. Round Leaved Pyrola -- http://www.asergeev.com/pictures/archives/compress/2009/767/16.htm -- it's also called False Wintergreen and its primary herbal medicinal use is for urinary tract problems. Secondary medicinal use is for canker sores and sore throats. I thought it was an orchid, too, at first.
Thank Joyce I was just going to put that information on the photo a friend in Maine gave me the same information so I've given you both credit. Thank you.
